BrandSnark: Good Week/Bad Week for the Big Brands

Good Week: McDonalds In honor of International Women’s Day, the world’s largest restaurant chain flipped its iconic “golden arches” M logo upside-down into a W on all of its online properties. This actually overshadowed the chain’s announcement that it will begin using fresh – not frozen – beef patties in its Quarter Pounder sandwiches.

Bad Week: Smuckers The Federal Trade Commission is attempting to block the company – which owns the Crisco brand – from purchasing the Wesson brand from parent company ConAgra, maintaining that the move would give Smuckers control over 70% of the cooking oil market. The jokes practically write themselves.

Buzzed Week: Coca-Cola – Going anything but “soft,” the soft-drink giant announced that it will introduce its first alcoholic beverage in Japan in the coming months. I hope they get it right… for everyone’s sake. (5, 4, 3, 2…)
